How to use wireless router with DD-WRT as a wireless adapter for Xbox

12 11 2007

This tutorial will show you how to use a wireless router with the DD-WRT firmware installed as a wireless router for and Xbox or Xbox 360. Go here for info on how to install DD-WRT on a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router.

Hardware you will need:

  • Wireless router with DD-WRT firmware installed (Client)
  • Wireless router (Host)
  • Xbox or Xbox 360
  • PC
  • Ethernet cord (optional)

Software you will need:

  • Internet Explorer

You will have to configure the the Client router to be a wireless receiver which will allow it to receive the wireless signal from the Host and bridge it to the 4 Ethernet ports on the router. I chose to do this rather than purchase an Xbox wireless adapter because I could purchase a router (~$50) for around half the cost of the Xbox wireless adapter (~$100). This tutorial assumes you are using a Linksys WRT-54G/GL/GS router as the Host and an internet service provider (ISP) that provides a dynamic IP via DHCP. Read the rest of this entry »
